Emilia, 5, who’s on the autism spectrum communicates with us mainly through gestures and single-word utterances. She would express interest in music and movement activities, and would join the class when she’s interested in the activities.
What few people know is that behind every glimmer of engagement and joy, is hours of journeying with her through the most unremarkable of days. These moments include sitting in silence next to her, walking her through her emotions, lying down on the floor for comfort and security or simply waiting for the emotional trains to pass.
